FIMAV 2006 performance: Mike Patton and Rahzel

The performance of Patton & Rahzel at FIMAV 2006 was one of the most funniest concerts I have seen for a while. For all of you who don’t know Patton or Rahzel, here is a short summary.
The artists:
Mike Patton has been the lead singer of Faith No More from 1988 to 1998. He has done a lot of projects recently - under different names like Fantomas, Mr. Bungle, etc. He has collaborated with Björk on her new album Medúlla.
Rahzel is a member of The Roots and specialized in beat boxing (he calls himself a ‘vocal percussionist’). Rahzel has recently collaborated with Björk on her new albumg Medúlla.
The performance:
Rahzels beat boxing capabilities are amazing. His repertoire not only includes all forms of hip hop beats and rythms, he is able to immitate the style of scratching records! Basically, he is able to sing and beatbox at the same time. Really impressive. But there was more, Patton did everything to manipulate his voice. And again, his sound was merging with the style of Rahzel into amazing compositions. They did a remix of a song of the White Stripes (sorry, I cannot remeber the name of the song). The concert hall was boiling (you know what I mean? 
).
But there was more to come: Patton switched on a radio and was searching through the channels (of the Québecois radio program) live on stage. And - guess what - they did a live remix of the songs played on the radio! This was like Céline Dion on acid!
And Patton & Rahzel had humour, they talked openly about her experiments on the stage, a la “Hey Rahzel, let’s do the one thing we are always doing?!” Of course, Patton is an entertainer who can easily control the crowd. This evening was highly entertaining and energizing. Rahzel & Patton, a must to see.

Das Konzert von Patton & Rahzel beim FIMAV 2006 war eines der humorvollsten Konzerte seit langem! Es ware eine wahre Freude, die beiden auf der Bühne zu sehen. Doch zu allererst ein paar Worte zu den Musikern.
Die Musiker:
Mike Patton war der Lead Singer bei der Band Faith No More von 1988 bis 1998. Seitdem ist er in zahlreiche Projekte wie zum Beispiel Fantomas, Mr. Bungle, etc. involviert. Kürzlich hat er mit Björk und ihrem Album Medúlla kollaboriert.
Rahzel ist ein Mitglied der Band The Roots und ist ein Spezialist im Beat Boxing (er bezeichnet sich selbst als “Vocal Percussionist”). Auch Rahzel hat mit Björk an dem Album Medúlla mitgewirkt.
Das Konzert:
Rahzel und seine Beat Boxing Fähigkeiten sind wirklich unglaublich! Er ist nicht nur in der Lage sämtliche Hip Hop Beats und Rythmen zu immitieren, nein, er ist auch in der Lage, verbal Platten zu scratchen! Dies war wirklich eindrucksvoll! Doch dazu kommt noch Patton’s Stimme, welche er auf originelle Art und Weise manipuliert, indem er diese durch verschiedenste Effektgeräte und Mikrophone jagt. Und wieder. Patton’s Style verschmolz zu einer einzigartigen Komposition mit Rahzel’s Rythmen. Die Konzerthalle war am explodieren, als die beiden einen Remix von einem Song von The White Stripes performten (sorry, kann mich leider nicht mehr an den Titel erinnern)!
Aber das war noch nicht der Höhepunkt. Mike Patton holte ein Radiogerät auf die Bühne und durchsuchte die lokalen Radiosender. Dabei wurde jeder noch so bekannte Pop-Song - welcher gerade im Radio lief - live auf der Bühne von den beiden geremixed. Ich war begeistert. Das ist mal eine kreative Nutzung von Medien. Vielen Dank!
Dies war ein grossartiger Abend. Eine Performance von Rahzel & Patton ist wirklich zu empfehlen.
